GFWC Pawtucket Woman’s Club The GFWC Pawtucket Woman's Club meets the first Monday of the month, October through April, with the Annual Meeting on the first Tuesday of May. The monthly meetings begin at 1:00 PM with a business meeting, followed by a program and a tea & fellowship time. Our meetings are held at Independence Square, 500 Prospect Street, Pawtucket, RI. To attend a club meeting or for more information contact Club President, Ruth Bennett @ 401-724-7732 or email pawtucket@gfwcri.org. Our Objective is to serve as a forum for women by encouraging our members to use their talents, to foster leadership development, to encourage and provide opportunities for volunteering with organizations in the Blackstone Valley, and to support and encourage each other's endeavors.
One of our charitable fundraisers for this year is Operation Smile in which doctors give their time to operate on children with cleft lips or palate. We are selling Mr. Potato Heads for $10.00. We have 25 of them to sell, which will pay for one operation. Anyone interested in buying one for a grandchild or neighbor, please contact Ruth @ 401-724-7732.
Twelve of our club members visited the historic Valentine Whitman House, built in 1694. The house is one of the few existing stone-ender houses which were built in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. Whitman was a friend of Roger Williams who founded the colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. The land around the house was farmlands or plantations as it was called in the 1600's. Members presented Pat Choiniere, director of the historic house, with a check for $250.00 to repair the windows to keep out the birds and squirrels. |
