SPIRIT OF GIVING 6TH GRADE ESSAY
CONTEST in EAST PROVIDENCE
"If you had $150 to donate to a charity, which one would it be, and why did you
choose the charity?"
This question was posed to 6th Grade students throughout East Providence, and
the GFWC Rumford Women's Club is proud to announce the winners of the 21st
annual Essay Contest. Essays were judged on originality, content and form.
First Place: Samantha Crausman, St. Mary's Bay View Academy (American Lung
Association)
Second Place: Samantha Mazza, St. Margaret School (Breadlines)
Third Place: Emma Clerx, St. Margaret School (Hasbro Children's Hospital)
Honorable Mention: Alexandria Braga, St. Margaret School (Meeting Street)
The winner's ceremony will be held at the Myron J. Francis School on Monday, May
11, 2009, at 7:00pm. Parents, teachers, charities, families and press are
welcome! Congratulations to our 2009 winners!

Our club is always looking for new members and you’re
welcomed to join! We meet regularly September -June, usually the second
Monday of the month at 7 pm, at the Myron J. Francis Elementary School Library,
on Bourne Avenue in Rumford. Typically we have a speaker or project each
meeting. Call Brittan Bates, Vice President @ 401-437-6815 for more
information.
Monthly Programs offer an opportunity for women to:

Meet
other interesting women from the area

Relax
and have fun while planning community service projects

Enjoy
presentations from speakers for personal and/or social growth

Attend
Social Outings and Dinners
Projects have included:

Donating necessities such as food, clothing, toiletries to local
organizations

Creating and distributing Valentines and goody bags for Veterans and the
elderly

Sponsor a little league team, summer camperships, reading programs for youth

Run an
essay contest with all middle schools in East Providence
-
Fundraisers to assist us giving monetary support to various non-profits
