Meet The 2023 Authors
The Lioness of Boston by Emily Franklin: the life story of Isabella Stewart Gardner, from her marriage in
1861 to Jack Gardner, a member of Boston’s ‘High Society,’ through her death in 1924…A captivating
story of a significant woman in Boston’s history who left that city a cultural legacy. This novel will appeal
to those who love historical fiction and stories of triumphant women who leave an indelible mark.
Franklin is the author of more than twenty novels and a poetry collection. Her award-winning work has
appeared in the New York Times, Boston Globe and numerous literary magazines and publications.
City of Dreams by Don Winslow: is a dramatic second novel in an epic crime trilogy… from the shores of
RI to the deserts of CA and from the power corridors of Washington to the fabled movie studios of
Hollywood. Winslow is the author of twenty-three award-winning international bestsellers, including
Savages, which was made into a feature film by Oscar-winning writer-director Oliver Stone.
Several of his book, sold to FX, are now filming to air as a weekly television series beginning in 2023.
Winslow, a graduate of South Kingstown High School, lives in California and Rhode Island.
The Shadow Box by Luanne Rice: is a thriller about how far a wife is willing to go to expose truths and
the lengths someone will go to stop her. Luanne is the NY Times bestselling author of 36 novels which
have been translated into 30 languages. Rice often writes about love, family, nature and the sea and

and more stations. Among many awards, she has received the Connecticut Governor’s Arts Award for
excellence and lifetime achievement in the Literary Arts category.

On July 13, 2022, the 22nd Book and Author Luncheon was held at the Dunes Club in Narragansett. This is the club’s major fundraiser that allows the mission of the Women’s club to be fulfilled. The event hosted three fabulous authors, Beatriz Williams, highlighting her newest book, THE LOST SUMMERS OF NEWPORT, chef Jeanie Roland from the Westerly restaurant, Ellas, with her newest cookbook, THE PERFECT CAPER, and author Susan Brescia talking about her timely book about the pandemic in Rhode Island, THE YEAR THE WORLD STOOD STILL. The renowned raffles are always a hit and not to be missed. Joining us for another year was, Michaela Johnson as the mistress of ceremonies.
